Highly sensitive fluorogenic β-galactosidase substrate for live-cell and in vitro applications
Invitrogen™ FDG is one of the most sensitive substrates for detecting β-galactosidase activity in both cell-based and biochemical assays. Non-fluorescent FDG is sequentially hydrolyzed by β-galactosidase—first to fluorescein monogalactoside (FMG), then to highly fluorescent fluorescein. This enzymatic conversion can be monitored by the increase in absorbance or fluorescence.
FDG is cell-permeant, making it ideal for live-cell reporter assays, flow cytometry, and fluorescence microscopy to measure LacZ expression. Its high sensitivity enables the detection of low β-galactosidase levels, even in single cells.
Key Features
- High Sensitivity – Detects very low β-galactosidase activity
- Bright Green Fluorescence – Excitation/emission maxima ~490/514 nm
- Cell-Permeant – Suitable for live-cell and fixed-cell assays
- Multiplex-Compatible – Works alongside other fluorophores in multi-color experiments
- Versatile Detection – Signal can be measured by fluorescence or absorbance
Applications
- LacZ reporter gene assays
- Live-cell β-galactosidase detection in flow cytometry
- Microscopy-based enzyme activity visualization
- Drug screening and gene expression studies
- Enzyme kinetics and biochemical assays
