The Liofilchem® INTEGRAL SYSTEM STAFILOCOCCHI is a 24-well colorimetric system designed for the biochemical identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of staphylococci. This innovative tool provides reliable, efficient, and simultaneous identification and susceptibility results within 18-24 hours, making it an essential addition to microbiological laboratories.
Key Features:
- Dual Functionality:
- Performs biochemical identification (Wells 1–8) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) (Wells 9–24) simultaneously.
- Comprehensive Biochemical Tests:
- Identifies Staphylococcus species through specific substrate-based reactions:
- Arginine decarboxylation (ADC)
- Urea hydrolysis (UR)
- Mannitol, sucrose, maltose, and trehalose fermentation, among others.
- Identifies Staphylococcus species through specific substrate-based reactions:
- Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing:
- Tests against a wide range of antibiotics, including:
- Gentamicin, Tobramycin, Amoxicillin-Clavulanic Acid, Ampicillin-Sulbactam, Ciprofloxacin, and others.
- Tests against a wide range of antibiotics, including:
- Colorimetric Results:
- Results are easy to interpret via color changes in the wells:
- Yellow: Growth (Resistant).
- Red: Inhibited growth (Sensitive).
- Results are easy to interpret via color changes in the wells:
- Numerical Coding System:
- Generates a three-digit code from the biochemical test results, which is matched against a database for precise species identification.
- Validated and Reliable:
- Complies with NCCLS guidelines and is validated using reference strains (e.g., ATCC).

- 20 Xylose Discs
- 20 Vials of Inoculum Broth (7.0 mL/vial)
- Instruction Manual
Additional Items Required (Not Included):
- Vaseline Oil (Code 80278)
- Physiological Solution for Microbiological Use (Code 20095)
- Standard laboratory supplies (pipettes, incubator, etc.)
Applications:
- Clinical Microbiology:
- Identify and determine antibiotic susceptibility of Staphylococcus species isolated from clinical samples.
- Food Microbiology:
- Detect and test staphylococcal contamination in food and environmental samples.
- Pharmaceutical Research:
- Evaluate the efficacy of antimicrobial compounds against staphylococcal strains.
- Quality Control:
- Perform routine microbial testing in laboratories adhering to regulatory standards.
How It Works:
- Sample Preparation:
- Isolate Staphylococcus colonies from selective/non-selective agar and prepare a bacterial suspension equivalent to 0.5 McFarland in physiological solution.
- System Inoculation:
- Biochemical Identification:
- Add 0.2 mL of bacterial suspension into wells 1-8.
- Add Vaseline Oil to wells 1 (ADC) and 2 (UR).
- Insert a Xylose Disc into well 6 (XYL).
- Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing:
- Add 0.2 mL of bacterial suspension into the provided Inoculum Broth, then distribute 0.2 mL into wells 9–24.
- Biochemical Identification:
- Incubation:
- Cover the system and incubate at 36°C ± 1°C for 18-24 hours.
- Result Interpretation:
- Biochemical Identification:
- Evaluate color changes in wells 1-8 and generate a three-digit code to identify the organism.
- Antibiotic Susceptibility:
- Observe growth inhibition in wells 9–24. Interpret as:
- Sensitive (S): Red.
- Intermediate (I): Orange.
- Resistant (R): Yellow.
- Observe growth inhibition in wells 9–24. Interpret as:
- Biochemical Identification:
