The Liofilchem® Food System (Ref. 71680) is an innovative 24-well microbiological system designed for the detection and presumptive identification of pathogenic microorganisms from food samples, including meat, dairy, fish, and other foodstuffs. It offers a compact, efficient, and cost-effective solution for microbiological screening, delivering reliable results within 18-24 hours. Validated to ISO 16140 standards, the Food System provides laboratories with a simple yet powerful method for food safety testing.

Key Features:

  1. Simultaneous Multi-Microorganism Detection:
    • Detects and identifies several key foodborne pathogens, including:
      • Salmonella spp.
      • Proteus/Providencia spp.
      • Pseudomonas spp.
      • Staphylococcus aureus
      • Escherichia coli and E. coli O157
      • Bacillus cereus
      • Listeria spp.
      • Yeasts and molds
  2. Validated for Accuracy:
    • ISO 16140-certified for the detection of Salmonella spp. and Listeria spp., ensuring compliance with international standards.
  3. Rapid Results:
    • Provides results within 18-24 hours of incubation at 36°C ± 1°C.
  4. Easy-to-Use:
    • Straightforward protocol involving inoculation, incubation, and interpretation through color changes in the wells.
  5. Dual-Sample Testing:
    • Each system allows testing of two separate samples or duplicate testing of a single sample.
  6. Cost-Effective:
    • Reduces labor, consumables, and the need for complex instruments while providing reliable and reproducible results.
  7. Customizable Confirmatory Testing:
    • Enables additional confirmatory biochemical, immunological, or microscopic tests for accurate microorganism identification.

Applications:

  1. Food Safety and Quality Control:
    • Detect foodborne pathogens in raw materials, production lines, and finished products.
  2. Compliance with Food Standards:
    • Ensures adherence to food safety standards, including ISO and HACCP regulations.
  3. Microbial Screening:
    • Screen for contamination in various food matrices with ease.
  4. Foodborne Disease Research:
    • Analyze foodborne pathogen behavior and validate food safety procedures.

How It Works:

  1. Sample Preparation:
    • Homogenize a food sample in Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) or Ringer's Solution to create a 1:10 dilution.
    • Incubate the sample suspension at 36 ± 1°C for 12-18 hours.
  2. System Inoculation:
    • Add 0.5 mL of the sample suspension into the provided Physiological Solution.
    • Distribute 0.2 mL of the suspension into each well.
  3. Incubation:
    • Cover specific wells with Vaseline Oil (e.g., LDC, H2S, UR) and incubate at 36 ± 1°C for 18-24 hours.
  4. Result Interpretation:
    • Observe color changes in the wells to detect and presumptively identify microorganisms.
    • For example:
      • Salmonella spp.: Yellow to red/orange (LDC) or yellow to black (H2S).
      • E. coli: Red to blue (ESC) with pink-red after adding Kovac’s Reagent (IND).
      • Listeria spp.: Yellow to black (LIS) and bubble formation in CAT after adding H2O2.
  5. Optional Confirmation:
    • Perform biochemical or serological tests (e.g., oxidase test for Pseudomonas spp.) or plate onto selective agar for further confirmation.

Included Components:

  1. 20 Food System Panels (40 Tests)
  2. 40 Vials of Physiological Solution (4.5 mL/vial)
  3. 20 Sealing Films
  4. Instruction Manual
  5. 1 Test Result Form

Items Not Included (But Necessary for Use):

  • Buffered Peptone Water (BPW)
  • Vaseline Oil
  • Oxidase Test Stick
  • Kovac’s Reagent
