The Thermo Scientific™ Chromogenic Coliform Agar (Dehydrated) is a highly selective and chromogenic medium designed for the detection, enumeration, and differentiation of coliforms and Escherichia coli in water samples. This medium complies with ISO 9308-1:2014, enabling reliable and efficient microbiological water quality testing in various water sources, including drinking water, pool water, and treatment plant samples.
Key Features
- ISO 9308-1 Compliance:
- Conforms to international standards for water quality analysis using membrane filtration.
- Chromogenic Differentiation:
- Utilizes Salmon GAL and X-glucuronide to differentiate target organisms:
- E. coli forms dark blue/violet colonies.
- Coliforms form pink to red colonies.
- Utilizes Salmon GAL and X-glucuronide to differentiate target organisms:
- Gram-Positive Inhibition:
- Contains Tergitol-7, which inhibits Gram-positive bacteria and non-coliform Gram-negative bacteria.
- Fast and Efficient:
- Provides complete detection within 24 hours, eliminating the need for subculturing.
- Broad Application:
- Suitable for drinking water, disinfected pool water, and water treatment plant samples.
Applications
1. Water Microbiology
- Enumeration and differentiation of coliforms and E. coli in:
- Drinking water
- Recreational water (e.g., swimming pools)
- Wastewater and treatment plant effluents
2. Environmental Monitoring
- Monitoring microbial water quality in industrial and municipal water systems.
3. Regulatory and Compliance Testing
- Ensures adherence to ISO 9308-1:2014 guidelines for microbiological water testing.
