Pierce Protein L Agarose consists of recombinant Protein L covalently immobilized onto high-quality crosslinked 6% beaded agarose (CL-6B). Protein L binds to immunoglobulins through their kappa light chains, rather than the Fc region. This enables purification across multiple antibody classes—including IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE, and IgD—provided they contain the compatible kappa light chain types.
It is especially useful for purifying Fab fragments, scFv antibodies, and monoclonal antibodies produced in culture media supplemented with bovine serum, since Protein L does not bind bovine immunoglobulins. Additionally, it supports immunoprecipitation and co-immunoprecipitation assays without interfering with the antigen-binding region.
