Heparin Sodium Salt, also known as Sodium Heparin or Sodium Heparinate, is a widely used anticoagulant compound that binds reversibly to Antithrombin III (ATIII) and significantly accelerates the inactivation of key coagulation enzymes, including thrombin (Factor IIa) and Factor Xa.
In addition to its classical role in coagulation studies, Heparin Sodium Salt has been shown to significantly inhibit exosome–cell interactions, making it a valuable research tool in extracellular vesicle biology, immunology, and cell signaling applications.
This product is supplied as a white to off-white solid and is intended strictly for research use.
Key Features
- Potent anticoagulant through ATIII-mediated inhibition
- Targets thrombin (Factor IIa) and Factor Xa pathways
- Reversibly binds Antithrombin III (ATIII)
- Useful in coagulation cascade and thrombosis research
- Reported inhibitor of exosome–cell interaction
- High-charge linear polysaccharide polymer structure
- Suitable for biochemical, immunological, and cell biology studies
Mechanism of Action
Heparin Sodium Salt functions primarily by enhancing the inhibitory activity of Antithrombin III against serine proteases in the coagulation cascade. Binding of heparin to ATIII increases the rate of thrombin inhibition by up to 2000-fold through formation of a ternary complex.
Heparin is also known to interact with growth factor signaling pathways, including stabilization of FGF–FGFR binding and promotion of receptor dimerization.
