Versatile Basal Medium for Mammalian Cell Culture
Gibco™ RPMI 1640 Medium is a widely used basal medium originally developed at Roswell Park Memorial Institute for the culture of human leukemic cells in suspension and as monolayers. Its enhanced vitamin profile and unique inclusion of glutathione, biotin, vitamin B12, inositol, and PABA make it suitable for a wide variety of mammalian cell lines, including HeLa, Jurkat, MCF-7, PC12, PBMCs, astrocytes, and carcinomas.
This RPMI 1640 formulation includes L-glutamine, phenol red, and sodium bicarbonate, but is free from HEPES and sodium pyruvate, allowing flexibility in supplementation based on specific experimental needs.
