The Invitrogen™ Amplex™ Red Catalase Assay Kit offers a highly sensitive, simple, and reliable fluorometric method for the quantitative measurement of catalase enzyme activity. It can detect as little as 50 mU/mL catalase in a purified system using a 100 μL assay volume, making it ideal for biochemical research, enzymology studies, and antioxidant defense investigations.
Assay Principle
Catalase catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) into water and oxygen. In this assay:
- Catalase first removes H₂O₂ from the reaction system.
- Any remaining H₂O₂ reacts with the Amplex™ Red reagent in the presence of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) to produce resorufin, a red-fluorescent product.
- The fluorescence intensity of resorufin (excitation ~571 nm, emission ~585 nm) is inversely proportional to catalase activity.
