Invitrogen™ Normal Rabbit Serum is a lyophilized control serum derived from healthy rabbits and is primarily used in immunodetection methods. This product contains the usual complement of serum proteins, including immunoglobulins, which are essential for blocking nonspecific binding sites in immunohistochemistry (IHC) and other assay methods. It serves as a blocking reagent or diluent to prevent nonspecific interactions in assays, ensuring that antibodies bind only to their specific targets.
Applications
- Blocking Assay (BLOCK): Use as a blocking reagent to saturate nonspecific binding sites in tissue samples or assay substrates during immunohistochemistry (IHC) and other antibody-based assays.
- Control (Ctrl): Use as a control serum for testing general or specific antibody purification methods to ensure the functionality and specificity of antibodies.

Reconstitution Instructions
- Reconstitution: To reconstitute, add 2 mL of distilled water to the lyophilized product. If the solution is not completely clear after standing for 1-2 hours at room temperature, centrifuge.
- Blocking Solution: For blocking purposes, prepare a 5% (v/v) solution by diluting 1:20 if reconstituted at the recommended volume.
- Storage after Reconstitution: Once reconstituted, the serum can be stored for up to 6 weeks at 4°C. However, it should be used within one day after dilution.
- Long-Term Storage: For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Product Information
Normal Rabbit Serum contains the natural array of serum proteins from a healthy rabbit, providing essential immunoglobulins and endogenous proteins. These proteins help to block nonspecific binding sites on fixed tissue samples or assay substrates, ensuring accurate and specific results in antibody-based assays.
Normal serum is often used to:
- Block nonspecific antibody binding in IHC.
- Provide a native environment for antibody functionality when used as a diluent.
- Serve as a control for antibody purification processes.
Target Information
Normal serum, including rabbit serum, is derived from non-immune animals. It contains all the normal serum proteins, such as immunoglobulins, that are found in healthy animals of the species. This makes it useful for:
- Blocking in assays to reduce nonspecific binding.
- Control purposes to test antibody specificity and purification methods.
- Immunodetection methods, especially those involving tissue samples.
Important Notes
- For Research Use Only: This product is not for diagnostic procedures and is not intended for use in clinical applications.
- Not for Resale: The product cannot be resold without express authorization.
This Normal Rabbit Serum is a valuable reagent for researchers in immunohistochemistry and other antibody-based assays, providing high-quality control and blocking functions to improve the specificity and accuracy of experimental results.
