Liofilchem® Amies Transport Medium w/o Charcoal is a semi-solid, phosphate-buffered medium designed to collect, transport, and preserve microbiological specimens. It maintains the viability of microorganisms during transport without promoting significant growth. This medium is suitable for various clinical and environmental microbiology applications and is particularly effective for maintaining anaerobic bacteria viability.

Preparation

1. Suspend 9.8 g of powder in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.
2. Heat to boiling with frequent stirring until completely dissolved.
3. Dispense into final containers.
4. Sterilize in an autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.

Instructions for Use

1. Sample Collection
   • Use sterile swabs to collect specimens. Insert one-third of the swab into the medium. Cut the stick, screw down the cap to immerse the swab fully.
   • Ensure the cap is tightly secured, and keep the medium cool during transport.
2. Storage During Transport
   • Store the sample under cool conditions and inoculate onto appropriate culture media within 24 hours for optimal results.

• Prepared Tubes: Store at 2-8°C, protected from light.

• Not suitable for all fastidious organisms.
