Thermo Scientific™ 5-Fluorouracil (≥99%) is a synthetic fluorinated pyrimidine analogue of uracil used as an antimetabolite and antineoplastic research compound.

It functions by inhibiting the conversion of deoxyuridylic acid to thymidylic acid, blocking DNA synthesis and preventing cell proliferation. It can also be misincorporated into RNA, thereby impairing RNA processing and translation.

This reagent is ideal for use in tumor biology, DNA damage studies, immunosuppression models, and cytotoxic mechanism research.

Key Features

  • High Purity: 98.5–101.0 % (NaOH titration, dried substance).
  • Mechanism: Inhibits thymidylate synthase and blocks DNA synthesis.
  • Dual Action: Interferes with both DNA and RNA metabolism.
  • Physical Form: White to off-white crystalline powder.
  • Low Impurities: Heavy metals ≤ 20 ppm; sulfated ash ≤ 0.1 %; loss on drying ≤ 0.5 %.
  • Infrared Spectrum: Conforms to reference standard.
  • Research Use Only: For laboratory or in-vitro applications; not for therapeutic use.
