High-Purity Anionic Detergent for Protein Dissociation, Membrane Disruption, and Endotoxin Removal
Thermo Scientific™ Sodium Deoxycholate is a high-purity, anionic, bile-acid detergent designed to effectively disrupt protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions. Widely used in cell lysis buffers (such as RIPA buffer), membrane protein extraction, and affinity purification workflows, this detergent exhibits powerful solubilizing properties while remaining compatible with downstream applications such as dialysis or gel filtration.
Sodium deoxycholate is also the recommended agent for stripping endotoxins (LPS) from polymyxin B-based columns in endotoxin removal procedures. Its small micelle size (average MW ~2000) and dialyzability make it ideal for applications where detergent clearance is required post-processing.
Key Features & Benefits
- Effective Protein Disruptor – Breaks protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions for membrane protein isolation
- Bile-Acid Based – Natural amphipathic compound with strong solubilizing activity
- Dialyzable & Filterable – Forms small micelles that are easily removed via dialysis or gel filtration
- High Purity (≥98%) – Low UV absorbance, suitable for spectrophotometric applications
- Compatible with Endotoxin Removal Workflows – Recommended for use with Detoxi-Gel™ endotoxin removal columns
- Stable Powder Format – Supplied in 5 g and 25 g sizes, ideal for research labs
Applications
- Cell Lysis & Extraction – Component of RIPA and other lysis buffers for whole cell or membrane protein extraction
- Membrane Protein Solubilization – Disrupts lipid bilayers for isolation of transmembrane proteins
- Liposome Preparation – Used in phospholipid and cholesterol dispersions
- Affinity Chromatography – Prevents nonspecific protein binding or used for gentle regeneration of columns
- Endotoxin Removal – Strips lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from immobilized polymyxin B resins
- Buffer Additive – Increases solubility or reduces aggregation in protein purification steps
