Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Cefoxitin FOX Antimicrobial Susceptibility Discs

Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Cefoxitin Antimicrobial Susceptibility Discs are designed for the standardized in vitro detection of bacterial susceptibility to cefoxitin using the disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer). Cefoxitin, a second-generation cephamycin antibiotic, is particularly useful in detecting methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) activity in Gram-negative organisms.

Each 6 mm paper disc is impregnated with either 10 µg or 30 µg of cefoxitin and packaged in durable, spring-loaded cartridges for easy handling. The discs are individually sealed in foil packs with a desiccant to ensure long-term stability by maintaining moisture levels below 2%.

These discs not only allow for classification of bacterial isolates as susceptible, intermediate, or resistant but also reveal useful visual markers of contamination, mutant colonies, beta-lactamase production, and possible drug synergism or antagonism.
