Pure ethyl alcohol is a non-denatured 200proof ethanol. Ethanol, a primary alcohol, is an important raw material for the synthesis of various compounds. It can be synthesized either from molasses by fermentation or by hydration of ethylene. Application

Ethanol has been used:

• as a solvent for lovastatin.[3]
• as a solvent during the synthesis of (S)-4-hydroxy-2-keto-4-(2′-pyridyl)butyrate.
• to fix tissue sections on a slide during laser capture microdissection (LCM).
