Rapid Identification of Anaerobic Bacteria Using Enzyme Technology

The Thermo Scientific™ RapID™ ANA II System is an advanced, rapid, manual identification system designed to detect and differentiate over 90 clinically important anaerobic bacteria. Based on innovative enzyme substrate technology, this qualitative micromethod enables laboratories to achieve accurate organism identification in just four hours, significantly reducing turnaround times in diagnostic microbiology workflows.

Key Features

  • Rapid Results: Accurate identification of anaerobes in just 4 hours
  • Simplified Workflow: No oil overlay, no pipetting, and no 24-hour incubation
  • Efficient One-Step Inoculation: Streamlined inoculation reduces setup time
  • Clear Colorimetric Reactions: Visual interpretation improves ease-of-use and minimizes subjectivity
  • Compact Format: Simultaneous inoculation of multiple wells in a single panel
  • Flexible Application: Ideal for use with clinical anaerobic isolates from agar culture
  • CE Marked: Meets EU regulatory compliance for in vitro diagnostic use

Product Functionality

Each RapID ANA II panel is a transparent plastic tray containing enzyme-impregnated wells. During testing, a suspension of the test organism is prepared in RapID Inoculation Fluid (R8325102) and added to the wells. Enzymatic reactions are initiated upon hydration and incubated at optimal conditions. After four hours (or two hours for RapID SS/u), wells are examined for visible color changes. In some cases, RapID Spot Indole (R8309002) reagent is added to enhance color development. The resulting pattern of positive and negative reactions is interpreted via the RapID ERIC™ software or a Code Compendium for accurate organism identification.

Applications

  • Clinical Microbiology: Rapid detection of anaerobes in infection control and pathology labs
  • Hospital and Diagnostic Labs: Routine screening of anaerobic pathogens
  • Medical Research: Identification of anaerobes for clinical studies and microbial analysis
  • Public Health Laboratories: Microbial surveillance and outbreak investigations
