Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Candida albicans Test Kit is a reagent-impregnated disc test designed for the rapid presumptive identification of Candida albicans from cultured yeast isolates.

This qualitative in vitro diagnostic kit detects the presence of specific enzymatic activities characteristic of C. albicans, enabling laboratories to obtain rapid results to support clinical decision-making.

The test is suitable for use in clinical microbiology laboratories as part of routine yeast identification workflows.

Principle of the Method

The assay detects two key enzymes produced by Candida albicans:

• L-proline aminopeptidase
• β-galactosaminidase

The test utilizes a combination of chromogenic substrates:

• p-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl-β-D-galactosaminide (NGL)
• L-proline-β-naphthylamide (PRO)

When these substrates are hydrolyzed by the corresponding enzymes present in C. albicans, a color reaction develops after addition of the color developer. The appearance of the expected color change provides presumptive identification.

This dual-substrate method enhances sensitivity and specificity compared to single-enzyme tests.
