The Liofilchem™ MTS™ Fluconazole MIC Test Strips are quantitative gradient diffusion assays designed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Fluconazole (FLU) against clinically important fungi. Each strip contains a continuous gradient of fluconazole across the range of 0.016 to 256 µg/mL, making them suitable for both susceptible and resistant isolates.
MTS™ strips provide an agar-based alternative to CLSI/EUCAST broth microdilution methods, offering high reproducibility, accuracy, and ease of use in routine clinical and research laboratories.
Key Features
- Gradient diffusion strip for Fluconazole (FLU).
- Broad MIC range: 0.016–256 µg/mL.
- Accurate and reproducible results, aligned with CLSI/EUCAST standards.
- Ideal for testing both susceptible and resistant Candida isolates.
- Simple agar-based testing format for routine labs.
- Available in 10, 30, and 100 pack sizes.
- Manufactured by Liofilchem®, ISO-certified for consistent quality.
Use Cases
-
Clinical Microbiology Laboratories
- Antifungal susceptibility testing of Candida spp. and other pathogenic yeasts.
- Supports treatment decisions for systemic and mucosal candidiasis.
-
Hospital Infection Control & Stewardship
- Detects fluconazole resistance, critical in managing azole-resistant Candida infections.
- Supports antifungal stewardship programs by ensuring correct drug selection.
-
Public Health & Epidemiological Surveillance
- Monitoring resistance trends in Candida albicans and non-albicans Candida species.
- Generating standardized data for regional and global resistance tracking.
-
Pharmaceutical & Academic Research
- Comparative studies of fluconazole with other azoles (e.g., itraconazole, voriconazole).
- Benchmark antifungal activity for drug development research.
Clinical Significance
- Fluconazole is a first-line triazole antifungal used widely in the treatment of candidiasis (oral, vaginal, systemic), cryptococcal meningitis, and other fungal infections.
- Resistance to fluconazole, particularly among Candida glabrata and Candida krusei, is a growing concern, making routine MIC testing essential.
-
Determining MIC values helps clinicians:
- Identify resistant or dose-dependent isolates.
- Guide appropriate therapeutic decisions.
- Improve patient outcomes by preventing treatment failure.
- These strips are also valuable in tracking resistance patterns as part of antifungal surveillance initiatives.
