Applications
- Water Quality Testing:
- Reliable detection of coliforms in potable water and wastewater.
- Environmental Monitoring:
- Ensures compliance with water safety regulations.
- Industrial Applications:
- Testing water used in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries.
Usage Guidelines
Preparation
- Suspend 35.6 g of powder in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.
- Heat until completely dissolved.
- Dispense into final containers with Durham tubes.
- Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Technique
- Inoculate 1 mL of sample (or serial dilutions) into a tube of Lauryl Tryptose Broth.
- Invert the tube to expel air from the Durham tube.
- Incubate at 36 ± 1°C for 24-48 hours.
Results Interpretation
- Positive Presumptive Test: Turbidity and gas production.
- Confirmation: Perform the indole test directly in the tube.
