Binding Specificity
Con A is a tetrameric lectin extracted from Canavalia ensiformis (jack bean). It binds to:
- α-D-mannopyranosyl
- α-D-glucopyranosyl
- Other sterically related carbohydrate structures
Binding requires the presence of hydroxyl groups at C-3, C-4, and C-5 of the sugar ring.
