The Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Modified Semi-solid Rappaport Vassiliadis (MRSV) Agar (ISO) is a selective medium designed for the enrichment and isolation of Salmonella spp. from food, animal feces, and environmental samples. This medium utilizes motility enrichment, allowing Salmonella species to migrate through the selective medium ahead of competing organisms, forming distinct opaque halos. It complies with ISO 6579:2002+A1:2007 Annex D for Salmonella detection in animal production systems.
Key Features
- Motility Enrichment:
- Relies on the motility of Salmonella spp. to migrate ahead of competing Gram-negative organisms, improving specificity and sensitivity.
- Highly Selective:
- Suppresses Gram-positive flora using novobiocin, low pH, high magnesium chloride concentrations, and malachite green.
- ISO Compliant:
- Meets the requirements of ISO 6579:2002+A1:2007 Annex D for Salmonella detection in animal feces and production samples.
- Wide Applicability:
- Effective for testing food, environmental samples, and fecal material from poultry, pigs, cattle, and other animals.
- Presumptive Identification:
- Presumptive Salmonella colonies can be subcultured onto XLD Agar and other selective Salmonella agars for confirmation.
Applications
1. Food Microbiology
- Isolation of Salmonella spp. from raw and processed foods, including meat, dairy, and ready-to-eat products.
2. Veterinary Microbiology
- Detection of Salmonella in animal feces, feed, and dust samples from primary production systems.
3. Environmental Monitoring
- Monitoring Salmonella contamination in water, soil, and industrial settings.
4. Research Microbiology
- Studies on Salmonella motility, ecology, and antimicrobial resistance.
