Nocive Brewers Bacteria Agar Base from Sigma-Aldrich is a powdered, non-sterile, selective culture medium developed for the detection and enumeration of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and other bacterial beer spoilers, including Pediococcus, Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, and Lactococcus species. Part of the NutriSelect® Plus product line, it is intended for use in breweries and beverage quality control laboratories, offering consistent performance at a cost-effective price.

This medium supports microbial testing in beer production, helping detect organisms that could negatively affect flavor, aroma, and shelf stability.

Preparation Instructions

1. Suspend 66.3 g of the medium in 500 mL of distilled water and 500 mL of degassed beer.
2. Mix thoroughly and heat with frequent agitation until completely dissolved.
3. Sterilize in an autoclave at 121 °C for 15 minutes.
4. Cool to 50 °C and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
