Lipophilic, cell-retained fluorescent β-galactosidase substrate
Invitrogen™ C12FDG is a β-galactosidase substrate covalently modified with a 12-carbon lipophilic moiety to enhance cellular retention of the fluorescent product following enzymatic cleavage. Once inside the cell, β-galactosidase hydrolyzes C12FDG to release a green-fluorescent compound that is retained within the cytoplasm, likely due to integration of the lipophilic tail into the cell membrane.
C12FDG is the primary component of the ImaGene™ Green kit and is particularly useful in applications requiring long-term tracking of β-galactosidase activity in live cells, including flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and gene expression studies involving LacZ reporters.
Key Features
