Liofilchem® Cefaclor Discs (30 µg) are ready-to-use antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) discs designed for use in the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar. Each disc is impregnated with 30 micrograms of Cefaclor, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with broad activity against Gram-positive and select Gram-negative bacteria. Manufactured under strict ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality systems, these discs ensure reliable, reproducible results for clinical and research microbiology applications.

    Key Features

    • Precision-loaded antibiotic: Each disc contains exactly 30 µg of Cefaclor.
    • Internationally compliant: Follows CLSI and EUCAST guidelines for antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
    • Sterile and convenient: Supplied in moisture-resistant packaging (canister or cartridge) to preserve potency and sterility.
    • Long shelf life: Maintains stability and performance under recommended storage conditions.
    • Color-coded labels: Clear identification of antibiotic class and potency for error-free usage.

    Applications and Use Cases

    1. Clinical Microbiology

    Used in medical laboratories to:

    • Evaluate the susceptibility of clinical isolates such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli.
    • Guide empirical treatment decisions for:
      • Otitis media
      • Lower respiratory tract infections
      • Skin and soft tissue infections
      • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

    2. Pharmaceutical Quality Control

    • Assess the antimicrobial potency of Cefaclor-containing pharmaceutical formulations.
    • Verify batch consistency during cephalosporin drug production.

    3. Research and Development

    • Characterize resistance profiles in clinical and environmental isolates.
    • Support surveillance studies on beta-lactam resistance.
    • Explore cross-resistance mechanisms with other cephalosporins and beta-lactams.

    Use Instructions

    1. Prepare Mueller-Hinton agar plates.
    2. Standardize bacterial inoculum to 0.5 McFarland turbidity.
    3. Inoculate the agar surface uniformly using a sterile swab.
    4. Apply Cefaclor disc (30 µg) using sterile forceps or a disc dispenser.
    5. Incubate plates at 35 ± 2 °C for 16–18 hours in ambient air.
    6. Measure the zone of inhibition in millimeters.
    7. Interpret the results according to CLSI or EUCAST breakpoint tables.

    Storage and Shelf Life

    • Storage Temperature: 2–8 °C (Refrigerated)
    • Shelf Life: Typically 2–3 years from the date of manufacture when stored sealed under recommended conditions.

Liofilchem® Cefaclor CEC Discs (30 µg) offer dependable performance in antimicrobial susceptibility testing for Gram-positive cocci and some Gram-negative pathogens. With precise antibiotic content and compliance with international testing standards, these discs are essential in clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical QC, and microbiological research. Their consistency and reliability help guide effective treatment strategies and support global efforts in antimicrobial resistance monitoring.
