Thermo Scientific™ Pierce™ Maleic Anhydride Activated Plates are clear 96-well polystyrene microplates designed for the covalent immobilization of amine-containing peptides, proteins, ligands, and other biomolecules. These plates are especially useful for molecules that do not bind efficiently through passive adsorption.
The maleic anhydride surface reacts spontaneously with primary amines (-NH₂) to form covalent amide bonds. This provides a direct and simple method for attaching target molecules to the well surface for ELISA, EIA, binding assays, screening workflows, and other colorimetric assay applications.

Usage Notes
Coating reactions are best performed at pH 8–9, where maleic anhydride groups efficiently react with primary amines. The resulting amide bonds are stable at neutral pH and above. Acidic conditions can hydrolyze the bond, so reacted plates are best used at pH greater than 7 for ELISA and related assay workflows.
Storage & Handling
Upon receipt, store plates at room temperature. Keep plates dry and protected from moisture until use. Product is shipped at ambient temperature.
