Invitrogen™ RNAlater™ Stabilization Solution is a ready-to-use aqueous tissue storage reagent designed to stabilize and protect cellular RNA in intact, unfrozen tissue samples. It eliminates the need for immediate RNA extraction or snap-freezing in liquid nitrogen, making it ideal for field collection, clinical sampling, and research workflows.

Procedure Overview

  1. Dissect tissue into pieces less than 0.5 cm in any dimension.
  2. Submerge in approximately 5 volumes of RNAlater at room temperature.
  3. Store according to required conditions.
  4. Remove tissue and proceed directly to RNA isolation.

Tissues treated with RNAlater can be:

  • Homogenized directly in lysis buffer
  • Frozen and ground with mortar and pestle
  • Thawed and processed like fresh tissue

RNases remain inactivated during processing.

Compatibility with RNA Isolation Methods

RNAlater™ is compatible with:

  • TRIzol™ reagent
  • Silica column methods (e.g., RNeasy-style kits)
  • Acid phenol extraction
  • Oligo(dT) mRNA purification workflows
