Procedure Overview
- Dissect tissue into pieces less than 0.5 cm in any dimension.
- Submerge in approximately 5 volumes of RNAlater at room temperature.
- Store according to required conditions.
- Remove tissue and proceed directly to RNA isolation.
Tissues treated with RNAlater can be:
- Homogenized directly in lysis buffer
- Frozen and ground with mortar and pestle
- Thawed and processed like fresh tissue
RNases remain inactivated during processing.
Compatibility with RNA Isolation Methods
RNAlater™ is compatible with:
- TRIzol™ reagent
- Silica column methods (e.g., RNeasy-style kits)
- Acid phenol extraction
- Oligo(dT) mRNA purification workflows
