Rapid Enzyme-Based Identification of Non-Fermenting and Oxidase-Positive Gram-Negative Bacilli
The Thermo Scientific™ RapID™ NF PLUS System is a rapid, manual microbial identification kit designed for the qualitative detection of over 70 clinically important oxidase-positive, Gram-negative bacilli, including Vibrio spp. and other medically relevant non-fermenters. Leveraging proprietary enzyme substrate technology, this micromethod delivers accurate results in just four hours, enabling timely and cost-effective diagnostics in clinical microbiology laboratories.
Key Features
- Fast Turnaround: Identify pathogens in 4 hours—supports urgent diagnostic decisions
- Manual Ease-of-Use: No oil overlays, pipetting, or long incubations required
- Broad Organism Coverage: Detects Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Aeromonas, and other oxidase-positive bacilli
- One-Step Inoculation: Simplifies preparation and saves valuable lab time
- Colorimetric Results: Clear, visible reactions reduce interpretation errors
- Data-Driven ID: Compatible with ERIC™ software or Code Compendium for confident reporting
- CE Marked: Certified for in vitro diagnostic use in regulated regions
Product Functionality
Each RapID NF PLUS panel contains a clear plastic tray with pre-filled wells of chromogenic and conventional substrates. The test organism is suspended in RapID Inoculation Fluid (R8325102) and dispensed into each cavity simultaneously. During the four-hour incubation, enzyme-substrate reactions produce visible color changes. In some wells, additional reagents such as RapID Spot Indole (R8309002) and RapID Nitrate A (R8309003) may be added to enhance visualization. The profile of positive/negative reactions is interpreted using Thermo Scientific’s database or ERIC™ software.
Applications
- Clinical Microbiology: Rapid ID of oxidase-positive, Gram-negative bacteria
- Hospital and Public Health Labs: Diagnosis of infections caused by Pseudomonas, Vibrio, Alcaligenes, Aeromonas, etc.
- Diagnostic Workflows: For isolates from human specimens where Enterobacteriaceae are excluded
- Research Use: Identification and characterization of environmental or clinical non-fermenters
