Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Ampicillin Antimicrobial Susceptibility Discs are designed for manual agar diffusion antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. These discs are used to determine the in vitro activity of ampicillin (AMP) against clinical isolates in microbiology laboratories.

Each disc is pre-loaded with a defined concentration of ampicillin and dispensed using a spring-loaded, shatterproof cartridge system. These cartridges are individually sealed with desiccant to ensure long-term stability by maintaining internal moisture levels below 2%.

The discs are used to categorize bacterial isolates as susceptible, intermediate, or resistant, in accordance with internationally recognized standards such as EUCAST and BSAC. They also provide a visual indication of contamination, resistant mutants, inoculum levels, and potential synergy or antagonism between antibiotics.
