The Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (VRBL) (ISO) (Dehydrated) is a selective medium designed for the isolation and enumeration of coliforms in food, animal feed, and environmental samples. This medium complies with ISO 4832:2006 and ISO/TS 11133-2:2003 standards, ensuring reliable results in microbiological analysis. By targeting lactose-fermenting organisms, VRBL Agar provides critical insights into food safety, quality, and spoilage potential.
Key Features
- Selective for Coliforms:
- Combines neutral red, crystal violet, and bile salts to inhibit Gram-positive bacteria while promoting coliform growth.
- Easy-to-Interpret Results:
- Lactose fermenters: Produce red-purple colonies with red-purple halos.
- Late lactose fermenters: Form straw or colorless colonies with greenish halos.
- Standards Compliant:
- Adheres to ISO 4832:2006 and ISO/TS 11133-2:2003 standards for food, animal feed, and environmental testing.
- Enhanced Selectivity:
- Improved differentiation by incubation at >42°C or under anaerobic conditions.
