Cefsulodin sodium salt is a narrow-spectrum, β-lactam cephalosporin antibiotic used primarily in microbiological media and susceptibility testing. It is especially effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Yersinia enterocolitica, and is a key component in selective media such as CIN agar.
Like other cephalosporins, cefsulodin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis via binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), including PBP1A, PBP1B, and PBP3, disrupting peptidoglycan crosslinking.
