Liofilchem® Cefadroxil Discs (30 µg) are high-quality antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) discs designed for use in the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar. Each disc is precisely impregnated with 30 micrograms of Cefadroxil, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic known for its activity against Gram-positive cocci and some Gram-negative bacilli. Manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality systems, these discs ensure consistent performance for clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical testing, and microbiological research.
Key Features
- Accurate antibiotic content: Each disc contains 30 µg of Cefadroxil for reliable and reproducible testing.
- Compliant with global standards: Supports CLSI and EUCAST guidelines for AST.
- Sterile, ready-to-use format: Available in easy-to-handle cartridges or canisters to preserve sterility and potency.
- Excellent stability: Maintains performance over extended shelf life under proper storage conditions.
- Color-coded labeling: Ensures easy identification and minimizes errors during test setup.
Applications and Use Cases
1. Clinical Microbiology
Used in hospitals and diagnostic laboratories to:
- Assess the susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., and Escherichia coli.
-
Aid in antibiotic selection for:
- Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs)
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
2. Pharmaceutical Quality Control
- Evaluate the antimicrobial potency of Cefadroxil-based formulations.
- Perform batch consistency checks during cephalosporin drug production and release.
3. Research and Development
- Analyze susceptibility patterns in Gram-positive clinical isolates.
- Conduct resistance surveillance studies in community-acquired pathogens.
- Explore combination effects with other antimicrobials in experimental therapies.
Use Instructions
- Prepare Mueller-Hinton agar plates as per standard protocols.
- Inoculate the plates with a 0.5 McFarland standardized suspension of the test organism.
- Apply one Cefadroxil disc (30 µg) onto the inoculated agar using sterile forceps or a disc dispenser.
- Incubate plates at 35 ± 2 °C for 16–18 hours in ambient conditions.
- Measure the zone of inhibition in millimeters.
- Interpret results according to CLSI or EUCAST breakpoint standards.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Storage Temperature: 2–8 °C (refrigerated)
- Shelf Life: Typically 2–3 years from the date of manufacture when stored unopened and under recommended conditions.
Liofilchem® Cefadroxil CDX Discs (30 µg) are essential for evaluating the antimicrobial activity of first-generation cephalosporins in clinical and research settings. Their precision, stability, and compliance with internationally recognized testing guidelines make them a dependable choice for routine AST. These discs support efforts in effective infection management and antibiotic stewardship by enabling accurate and consistent susceptibility profiling.
