The Liofilchem™ Bacillus cereus Supplement is a selective supplement containing Polymyxin B in a lyophilized format. It is specifically designed for the selective isolation and identification of Bacillus cereus from food samples. This supplement enhances the selectivity of media such as Bacillus cereus Agar Base (PEMBA) or Mossel formulations, inhibiting background flora without interfering with the growth of B. cereus.

    Key Features

    1. Selective for Bacillus cereus:
      • Polymyxin B inhibits unwanted bacterial flora, allowing for the selective isolation of Bacillus cereus.
    2. Easy-to-Use:
      • Ready-to-reconstitute lyophilized vials ensure consistent and accurate preparation.
    3. Compatible with Bacillus cereus Agar Bases:
      • Works with PEMBA (Codes 610136, 620136) and Mossel formulations (Codes 610114, 620114).
    4. Validated Performance:
      • Conforms to international standards such as ISO 7932, ensuring reliability and reproducibility.

    Kit Contents

    • 10 vials of freeze-dried Bacillus cereus Supplement.
    • 1 instruction sheet.

    Applications

    1. Food Microbiology:
      • Detect and enumerate Bacillus cereus in raw, processed, and ready-to-eat foods.
    2. Environmental Monitoring:
      • Monitor contamination in food production and handling environments.
    3. Pharmaceutical Microbiology:
      • Identify potential contamination with Bacillus cereus in pharmaceutical samples.

    Preparation Instructions

    1. Reconstitute the contents of one vial with 5 mL of sterile distilled water.
      • Shake until fully dissolved, avoiding foam formation.
    2. Aseptically add the reconstituted solution to 500 mL of Bacillus cereus Agar Base (PEMBA or Mossel formulations).
      • Ensure the medium is autoclaved and cooled to 45-50°C.
    3. Mix thoroughly and pour into sterile Petri dishes.

    Technique and Results Interpretation

    • Inoculate the prepared medium and incubate at 30°C for 24 hours.
    • Results:
      • Bacillus cereus: Red colonies (Mossel Agar) with lecithin precipitation halo.
      • Other bacteria: Inhibited or produce different colony morphology.
