Convenient, pre-diluted inducer for lac operon–controlled gene expression
The Thermo Scientific™ IPTG Solution is a highly stable, ready-to-use inducer of the lac operon, formulated at 0.1 M in liquid form for direct application in protein expression workflows. IPTG (isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside) is a synthetic lactose analog that inactivates the lac repressor, enabling transcription of lacZ and other genes under lac promoter control.
In molecular cloning, IPTG is commonly used with X-Gal to facilitate blue/white colony screening, allowing clear differentiation between recombinant and non-recombinant bacterial colonies. In protein expression systems, IPTG is essential for inducing recombinant protein production in E. coli strains carrying IPTG-inducible plasmids.
