Sigma-Aldrich NutriSelect® Plus Middlebrook 7H9 Broth Base
Middlebrook 7H9 Broth Base is a specialized liquid culture medium used for the isolation, cultivation, and drug susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium species. Its formulation includes essential inorganic compounds, amino acids, and growth factors necessary for the propagation of Mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium bovis. When supplemented with Middlebrook ADC Growth Supplement, the medium offers optimal growth conditions for both research and clinical microbiology applications.
Key Features
- Supports Rapid Growth
- Liquid medium promotes faster growth of Mycobacteria compared to solid media (e.g., Middlebrook 7H10 and 7H11).
- Enriched with Inorganic Compounds
- Supplies potassium, sulfur, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are essential for Mycobacterial metabolism.
- Middlebrook ADC Supplement Compatibility
- Addition of ADC Growth Supplement (bovine albumin, dextrose, catalase) enhances growth by:
- Providing energy through dextrose.
- Protecting Mycobacteria from toxic agents using albumin.
- Neutralizing toxic peroxides with catalase.
- Addition of ADC Growth Supplement (bovine albumin, dextrose, catalase) enhances growth by:
- Adaptable to Specific Growth Requirements
- Glycerol or TWEEN® 80 can be added to optimize growth and energy supply.
- Ideal for Drug Susceptibility Testing
- Widely used for sensitivity testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
- Wide Range of Applications
- Suitable for use in clinical diagnostics, research, food testing, and veterinary microbiology.
