For Isolation and Direct Differentiation of Staphylococcus Species
CHROMagar™ Staphylococcus is a selective chromogenic culture medium developed for the isolation, direct identification, and differentiation of clinically and veterinary relevant Staphylococcus species, including S. aureus, S. epidermidis, and S. saprophyticus. Designed for use in both human and animal microbiology, this medium offers clear color-based colony identification, enabling fast and reliable analysis of samples from complex matrices such as milk (mastitis testing) and clinical swabs.
It is particularly useful when combined in multi-sector plates with other CHROMagar™ media (e.g., CHROMagar™ Streptococcus, CHROMagar™ Mastitis GN), allowing broad-spectrum microbial differentiation in one plate.
🔹 Key Features & Benefits
-
✅ Distinct Color-Based Differentiation:
Staphylococcus Species Colony Appearance S. aureus Pink to mauve S. epidermidis Colorless to pinkish S. saprophyticus Turquoise blue -
✅ Designed for Complex Samples:
Effective in milk samples, mastitis screening, and veterinary diagnostics, where mixed bacterial flora is common. -
✅ Fast, Clear Results:
Species differentiation within 18–24 hours using distinctive chromogenic reactions. -
✅ Flexible Use:
Available as standalone medium or integrated into 3-sector combination plates for broader diagnostic reach. -
✅ Improves Lab Efficiency:
Saves time by reducing the need for subcultures and biochemical confirmation in preliminary screening workflows.
🔹 Intended Use
CHROMagar™ Staphylococcus is intended for:
-
Presumptive identification and differentiation of Staphylococcus species from:
- Clinical swabs (wound, nasal, skin)
- Veterinary and milk samples (e.g., bovine mastitis)
- Environmental and forensic samples
- Use in clinical microbiology, veterinary diagnostics, food safety, and animal health laboratories
⚠️ Not intended to diagnose infection or guide therapy. Suspect colonies should be confirmed with standard identification methods (e.g., MALDI-TOF, coagulase tests, PCR).
🔹 Test Procedure
- Sample Types: Clinical swabs, milk, veterinary samples
- Inoculation: Direct streaking onto CHROMagar™ Staphylococcus
-
Incubation:
- Temperature: 35–37 °C
- Time: 18–24 hours
- Atmosphere: Aerobic
-
Interpretation:
- S. aureus: Pink to mauve colonies
- S. saprophyticus: Turquoise blue colonies
- S. epidermidis: Colorless to pale pink colonies
