The Liofilchem® Legionella Latex Kit is a rapid and reliable latex agglutination test designed for the presumptive identification of Legionella pneumophila and other common Legionella species grown on selective culture media. This kit enables separate identification of L. pneumophila serogroup 1 (sg1), serogroups 2–15, and several other clinically and environmentally relevant Legionella species.

Based on latex particle agglutination technology, the kit provides visible results within 2 minutes, significantly reducing hands-on time compared to traditional biochemical methods. It is intended for in vitro diagnostic use in microbiology laboratories and is not designed for direct clinical diagnosis.

Method Principle

Latex particles coated with polyclonal antibodies agglutinate visibly when mixed with colonies of Legionella spp. from selective media. Separate reagents allow discrimination of L. pneumophila sg1, serogroups 2–15, and other species. Agglutination indicates a presumptive positive result, which should be confirmed with additional culture tests (e.g., growth on BCYE agar with and without cysteine).
