High-contrast chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase detection
Invitrogen™ Bluo-Gal is a halogenated indolyl-β-galactoside chromogenic substrate used for the detection of β-galactosidase activity in blue/white screening, viral plaque assays, and histochemical staining. Upon hydrolysis by β-galactosidase, Bluo-Gal produces an intense dark blue precipitate that is more saturated in color than X-Gal, improving visual contrast in screening and detection workflows.
Bluo-Gal can also be used with streptavidin–β-galactosidase conjugates in immunoblotting and immunocytochemistry assays. The insoluble blue reaction product is stable and resistant to alcohols and xylenes, ensuring compatibility with a variety of fixation and staining protocols.
