How It Works
Filter-free UV-Vis wavelength selection from 200 to 999 nm
The monochromator-based optics in Epoch 2 allows selection of wavelengths in 1 nm increments - there is no need to purchase filters! The broad wavelength range enables applications from nucleic acid and protein quantification in the low UV to microbial growth assays at higher wavelengths.
Compatible with 6- to 384-well plates and cuvettes for assay versatility
The optional cuvette port enables quick and easy 1 cm sample measurements, making Epoch 2 a versatile choice for assay workflows in a variety of labware.
Available touch screen interface and onboard software
Access common end point, kinetic, or microvolume assays through the convenient touch screen. Displayed data can be output to a printer or USB flash drive for added flexibility. Epoch 2 comes with Gen6 software for additional powerful data analysis.

Endpoint, kinetic, and spectral scanning modes
The onboard software in Epoch 2 enables several read modes including single and dual wavelength end point and kinetic measurements. Spectral scanning provides a convenient, quick spectrum of all defined samples. Under Gen6 software control, well area scanning is also available, along with powerful data analysis.
4-Zone incubation to 65 °C and Condensation Control
Some important applications like biofuels research, food and beverage safety, and microbial growth assays call for higher incubation temperatures. Epoch 2 can meet these assay requirements. Kinetic assays are optimized with Condensation Control to prevent interference caused by condensation on plate lids.
Microvolume measurements with the Take3 Plate
The Take3 microvolume plates expand Epoch 2 capabilities to measure 2 µL samples for direct DNA, RNA, and protein quantification. Get rapid results for up to 48 samples at a time without additional instrumentation.
Technology
Absorbance
Absorbance refers to the ability of a substance to absorb light of a specific wavelength. In a microplate reader designed to measure absorbance, a light source illuminates the sample using a specific wavelength, selected by an optical filter or a monochromator.
