MCE XTT Sodium Salt is a high-purity tetrazolium-based reagent used for the quantitative assessment of cell viability, proliferation, and cytotoxicity.
This assay is based on the reduction of XTT by metabolically active cells into a water-soluble orange formazan product, enabling direct measurement without additional solubilization steps.
Due to its sensitivity and ease of use, XTT is widely applied in cell biology, drug screening, and toxicology studies, offering a reliable alternative to traditional tetrazolium assays.
Key Features and Benefits

- Cytotoxicity and drug screening studies
- Metabolic activity measurement
- Cancer and immunology research
- High-throughput screening (HTS) assays
- Cell-based assay development
Assay Principle
XTT is reduced by mitochondrial enzymes in metabolically active cells:
- Viable cells convert XTT into an orange formazan product
- The amount of formazan produced is proportional to the number of viable cells
- Absorbance is measured at 450 nm (reference: 650 nm)
- Results are calculated relative to control samples
