Liofilchem® Bile Bacteriological is a purified and dehydrated preparation of ox bile used as a selective agent in bacteriological media formulations. Supplied as a fine beige powder that is completely soluble in water, it provides a consistent source of bile salts required for the growth and differentiation of enteric bacteria and for the identification of enterococci based on their bile tolerance.
The product is manufactured under strict quality control to ensure batch-to-batch uniformity and complies with European Pharmacopeia specifications for solubility, pH, loss on drying, and bile acid content.
Key Features
- Purified, high-quality ox bile: free from impurities, easily soluble, and fully compatible with microbiological media.
 - Selective agent: inhibits most Gram-positive organisms while supporting enterobacteria and bile-tolerant species.
 - Versatile application: used in formulations such as MacConkey, Violet Red Bile, and Bile Aesculin media.
 - Stable and reproducible: consistent bile-salt concentration provides reliable selectivity across batches.
 - Meets pharmacopoeial standards: validated physico-chemical properties ensure media performance.

Use and Preparation
Bile Bacteriological is intended for incorporation into dehydrated culture media as a selective component.
- Dissolve the required amount in distilled or deionized water within the medium formulation.
 - Mix thoroughly until completely dissolved.
 - Sterilize by autoclaving together with the final medium as specified in the recipe.

It may be used in the preparation of selective agars for enterobacteria, in bile-tolerance tests, or as a supplement in media for enterococcal identification.
Quality Control
- Appearance (Dehydrated): free-flowing, homogeneous beige powder
 - Performance: fully soluble at 5 % concentration with pH 5.5–7.5
 - Meets internal QC criteria for purity, solubility, and bile acid content

Storage and Stability
- Store at 10 – 30 °C in a dry environment inside the original, tightly closed container.
 - The product is highly hygroscopic; protect from humidity.
 - Use before the expiry date indicated on the label or discard if contamination or caking is observed.
