Aspergillus niger van Tieghem ATCC 9029™ is a well-characterized fungal reference strain supplied as a freeze-dried preparation for microbiology, industrial biotechnology, and research applications. This strain is widely recognized for its relevance in organic acid production, bioremediation studies, and other industrial processes where A. niger serves as an important production organism. The ampoule contains viable cells, which may include spores and mycelia, suspended in a protective medium to preserve strain integrity during storage.
As a genome-sequenced strain, ATCC 9029™ is valuable for laboratories requiring a reliable organism for research, method development, comparative studies, and process validation. It should be stored at 2°C to 8°C until use.
Key Features
- Authentic Aspergillus niger van Tieghem reference strain
- ATCC 9029™ designation
- Supplied in freeze-dried format
- Contains viable cells, including possible spores and mycelia
- Genome sequenced
- Suitable for industrial biotechnology, organic acid production, and bioremediation
- Recommended refrigerated storage at 2°C to 8°C
Handling and Rehydration
For lyophilized ampoules, the pellet should be rehydrated aseptically using 0.5 to 1.0 mL of sterile distilled water, then transferred into a test tube containing 5 to 6 mL of sterile distilled water. The suspension should be left undisturbed at approximately 25°C for at least 2 hours, although overnight rehydration may improve viability for some fungi. After mixing well, the suspension can be used to inoculate the recommended solid or liquid culture medium. Growth is typically visible after 2 to 3 days of incubation, depending on culture conditions and strain behavior.
