Liofilchem® Campylobacter Blaser Wang Supplement is a selective antibiotic supplement developed for the isolation of Campylobacter species, including C. jejuni and C. coli, from clinical, food, and environmental samples.
This formulation is a modified version of Skirrow’s medium, enriched with Amphotericin B and Cephalothin, to provide enhanced selectivity and antifungal activity. When used with Campylobacter Agar Base (ref. 611007 / 621007) and Campylobacter Growth Supplement (ref. 81050), it forms a complete selective medium optimized for the growth of Campylobacter spp. under microaerophilic conditions.

Principle of the Method
The Campylobacter Blaser Wang Supplement enhances the selectivity of culture media used for isolating Campylobacter spp. The combination of antibiotics and antifungal agents suppresses competing microorganisms while allowing the growth of Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli, and related species under microaerophilic incubation (5–10% O₂, 10% CO₂).
- Polymyxin B inhibits Gram-negative contaminants.
- Trimethoprim interferes with nucleic acid synthesis, inhibiting Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
- Cephalothin and Vancomycin target Gram-positive flora.
- Amphotericin B prevents fungal contamination.
Preparation and Use
- Reconstitute one vial of Campylobacter Blaser Wang Supplement with 4 mL of a 1:1 mixture of sterile distilled water and ethanol.
- Shake gently until completely dissolved, avoiding foam formation.

Add the reconstituted solution aseptically to 500 mL of autoclaved Campylobacter Agar Base (45–50 °C) supplemented with:
- 10% defibrinated ram’s blood or 5–7% lysed horse blood
- 1 vial of Campylobacter Growth Supplement (ref. 81050)
- Mix carefully and pour into Petri dishes.
