Liofilchem® Campylobacter C.T.V.N. Supplement is a selective freeze-dried antibiotic mixture used to enrich Campylobacter Enrichment Broth Base for the isolation and detection of Campylobacter spp. from clinical, veterinary, and food samples.

The supplement combines Cefoperazone, Trimethoprim, Vancomycin, and Nystatin, providing broad inhibitory coverage against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and fungal contaminants. The formulation ensures effective selective enrichment for Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli, and other thermotolerant Campylobacter species under microaerophilic incubation conditions.

Composition

Principle of the Method

The Campylobacter C.T.V.N. Supplement enhances selectivity in Campylobacter enrichment media, enabling isolation of Campylobacter spp. from complex matrices.

• Cefoperazone acts against Gram-negative enteric flora.
• Trimethoprim exerts a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic effect on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
• Vancomycin eliminates Gram-positive cocci.
• Nystatin suppresses fungal contamination, maintaining culture purity.

The supplement creates an environment favorable for Campylobacter growth during selective pre-enrichment, allowing successful isolation when subcultured onto selective agar media.

Preparation and Use

1. Reconstitute one vial of Campylobacter C.T.V.N. Supplement aseptically with 5 mL of sterile distilled water.
2. Mix until completely dissolved, avoiding foam formation.
3. Add the entire 5 mL aseptically to 500 mL of autoclaved Campylobacter Enrichment Broth Base (45–50 °C).
4. Mix gently and distribute into sterile containers.
5. Incubate inoculated samples at 42 °C for 48 hours under microaerophilic conditions prior to plating.
