Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Oxacillin Antimicrobial Susceptibility Discs are standardized paper discs used in the manual disc diffusion method to determine microbial susceptibility to oxacillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic. These discs are specifically valuable for identifying methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other resistant Staphylococcus species in clinical microbiology.
Each 6 mm disc is pre-impregnated with either 1 µg or 5 µg of oxacillin, and is housed in a shatterproof spring-loaded cartridge for easy, aseptic dispensing. Cartridges are foil-sealed with desiccant to ensure <2% moisture content, maintaining long-term disc stability and performance.
These discs support the classification of microbial isolates as susceptible, intermediate, or resistant, and provide visual indicators such as resistant mutants, inoculum levels, and possible synergistic or antagonistic activity with other antibiotics.
