It conforms to the standards of various international pharmacopoeias, making it suitable for pharmaceutical, clinical, and food microbiology applications.
Key Features:
- Nutrient-Rich Composition:
- Contains peptones derived from pancreatic and enzymatic digestion to provide essential amino acids and nutrients.
- Wide Applicability:
- Supports the growth of a variety of organisms in pharmaceutical, clinical, and food testing.
- Compatible with the addition of sterile blood for the preparation of blood agar or chocolate agar.
- Pharmacopoeia Compliance:
- Conforms to EP, USP, JP, and BP standards, making it suitable for pharmaceutical testing.
- Enhanced Performance:
- Can be modified with supplements like lecithin and Polysorbate 80 for specific applications (e.g., microbial content testing of quaternary ammonium compounds).
Typical Formula (per liter):
Component | Amount (g/L) |
---|---|
Pancreatic Digest of Casein | 15.0 |
Enzymatic Digest of Soya Bean | 5.0 |
Sodium Chloride | 5.0 |
Agar | 15.0 |
pH (at 25°C) | 7.3 ± 0.2 |
Preparation Instructions:
- Preparation of Dehydrated Medium:
- Suspend 40 g of TSA powder in 1 liter of distilled water.
- Heat to boiling with frequent stirring to dissolve completely.
- Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
- Addition of Blood for Blood Agar:
- Cool the sterilized medium to 45–50°C.
- Add 7% sterile blood and mix gently.
- Chocolate Agar Preparation:
- Heat blood-supplemented agar until the medium turns chocolate brown for optimal performance.
Applications:
- General Cultivation:
- Suitable for the growth of a wide range of aerobes and anaerobes.
- Pharmaceutical Testing:
- Growth promotion and suitability testing for microbial enumeration.
- Food and Dairy Microbiology:
- Use in bacterial counts on poultry and other food products.
- Specialized Media:
- Used as a base for blood agar, chocolate agar, and enhanced hemolysis agar (EHA).
