The Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Dehydrated) is an acidic medium formulated for the isolation and identification of dermatophytes, fungi, and yeasts from clinical and environmental samples. The medium supports the cultivation of fungi while inhibiting bacterial growth, making it ideal for isolating pathogenic fungi in mixed samples. The low pH ensures the growth of fungal organisms while suppressing bacterial interference.
Key Features
- Fungal Isolation:
- Facilitates the isolation of dermatophytes and other fungi from clinical specimens such as skin, hair, nails, and environmental samples.
- Selective Properties:
- Low pH supports fungal growth while inhibiting bacterial contamination.
- Compatible with antibiotics for enhanced selectivity in mixed samples.
- Broad Applications:
- Effective for identifying Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus fumigatus, and other fungi.
- Adaptable with Supplements:
- Can be modified with antibiotics (e.g., chloramphenicol, cycloheximide) for selective isolation of pathogenic fungi.
- Extended Shelf Life:
- Stable formulation with a shelf life of up to 5 years when stored between 10°C to 30°C.
