Liofilchem Glycerol Supplement is a highly purified glycerol solution used to enrich culture media for the growth and maintenance of a variety of microorganisms, including Mycobacteria and other fastidious bacteria. It is an essential supplement for enhancing the metabolic activity of bacterial cultures in specific solid and liquid media.

    Key Features

    1. High Purity
      • Composed of pure glycerol, ensuring no contaminants interfere with microbial growth.
    2. Versatile Compatibility
      • Used in the preparation of several enriched culture media, such as:
        • I.U.T.M. Medium (REF 610169/620169)
        • Lowenstein-Jensen Medium (REF 610026/620026)
        • Middlebrook 7H10 Agar Base (REF 611022/621022)
        • Pseudomonas Agar Base (REF 610071/620071).
    3. Supports Bacterial Metabolism
      • Glycerol acts as an energy and carbon source that promotes robust growth of specific microorganisms like Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Pseudomonas species.
    4. Convenient Packaging
      • Available as 4 bottles, each containing 50 mL of glycerol supplement.
    5. Easy to Use
      • Added to culture media before autoclaving, ensuring uniform mixing and sterilization.

    Applications

    1. Enrichment of Mycobacterial Media
      • Added to Lowenstein-Jensen Medium and Middlebrook 7H10 Agar Base for the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and related species.
      • Provides a rich energy source to support slow-growing Mycobacteria.
    2. Enhanced Pseudomonas Culture
      • Used in Pseudomonas Agar Base to promote the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa for environmental and clinical testing.
    3. Metabolic Studies and Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing
      • Facilitates drug susceptibility testing by providing a stable energy source for microbial cultures, particularly in antibiotic resistance studies.
    4. General Bacterial Cultivation
      • Used as a supplement in customized media to support bacterial metabolism in research, clinical, and industrial applications.

    Procedure for Use

    1. Prepare the base medium according to its specific preparation instructions.
    2. Add Glycerol Supplement in the required quantity as specified for the medium.
    3. Heat and mix the medium carefully to ensure uniform distribution.
    4. Sterilize the medium by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
    5. Cool the medium to 45–50°C and pour into sterile Petri dishes or tubes.
