Rapid Identification of Common Urinary Tract Pathogens in Just Two Hours
The Thermo Scientific™ RapID™ SS/u System is a rapid identification tool designed to detect commonly isolated urinary tract pathogens within only two hours. Utilizing advanced enzyme-based substrate technology, this qualitative micromethod offers fast and accurate results to support clinical decision-making in urinary tract infection (UTI) diagnostics.
Key Features
- Two-Hour Turnaround: Fast identification of UTI pathogens for quicker treatment decisions
- Simplified Manual Workflow: No pipetting, no oil overlays, and no extended incubation
- One-Step Inoculation: Increases productivity and reduces hands-on time
- Colorimetric Reactions: Clear, easy-to-interpret results reduce subjectivity
- Minimized Consumables: Efficient system that saves lab time and resources
- Integrated Identification: Results interpreted via ERIC™ software or Code Compendium
- CE Marked: Certified for professional in vitro diagnostic use
How It Works
Each RapID SS/u panel contains a clear plastic tray with chromogenic and conventional substrates pre-impregnated in wells. After preparing a suspension of the test isolate in RapID Inoculation Fluid (R8325102), the panel is inoculated in a single step. The tray is incubated for two hours, after which visible color changes in the wells are assessed. In some reactions, RapID Spot Indole (R8309002) may be added to complete the color change. The positive/negative reaction pattern is then compared against stored databases using software or a codebook for accurate organism identification.
Applications
- Clinical Microbiology: Fast identification of uropathogens in patient urine samples
- Diagnostic Laboratories: Routine screening of urinary isolates
- Hospital Labs: Rapid support for empirical therapy decisions in suspected UTIs
- Medical Research: Study of uropathogens and resistance profiling
