Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Oxidase
Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Oxidase is a ready-to-use diagnostic reagent designed to detect the presence of the cytochrome oxidase enzyme in bacterial isolates. This test is used in clinical and research laboratories to differentiate between oxidase-positive and oxidase-negative microorganisms, supporting bacterial identification processes.
Key Features
- Cytochrome Oxidase Detection: Specifically identifies the bacterial production of the oxidase enzyme, essential for distinguishing oxidase-positive microorganisms.
- Ready-to-Use: No preparation required, simplifying workflow in busy laboratory environments.
- Easy Interpretation:
- Positive Test: Development of violet to purple color within 10–30 seconds.
- Negative Test: Delayed reaction or no color change within 10–30 seconds.
- Stable and Reliable: Contains ascorbic acid to reduce auto-oxidation, ensuring stability and accuracy.
- Precise Formulation: Based on the oxidase reagent formula of Kovacs, ensuring consistent and reproducible results.
Applications
- Clinical Diagnostics: Used to identify Neisseria species and differentiate Pseudomonadaceae from oxidase-negative Enterobacteriaceae.
- Microbial Research: Distinguishes between oxidase-positive Gram-negative bacteria and oxidase-negative Gram-positive bacteria.
- Food and Water Testing: Identifies oxidase-positive bacteria in environmental and food samples.
- Veterinary Microbiology: Supports bacterial differentiation in animal health diagnostics.
How It Works
The oxidase test detects the presence of a cytochrome oxidase system, which activates the oxidation of reduced cytochrome c by molecular oxygen. This reaction produces a purple-colored compound, indophenol, in oxidase-positive bacteria.
Reaction Components:
- N,N,N,N-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine: Serves as the primary reagent for oxidase activity.
- Ascorbic Acid: Enhances stability by reducing auto-oxidation.
- Demineralized Water: Ensures reagent consistency.
Product Details
- Formulation: 0.75 mL ampules of oxidase reagent.
