The Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Orange Serum Agar (Dehydrated) is a microbiological growth medium designed for the isolation and enumeration of microorganisms capable of surviving in citrus products. This medium is optimized for the recovery of acid-tolerant microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, and molds, which are common spoilage organisms in citrus-based products. Its formulation makes it a superior choice for detecting spoilage organisms in acidic environments.
Key Features
- Optimized for Acidic Environments:
- Formulated to support the growth of acid-tolerant microorganisms commonly found in citrus products.
- Comprehensive Recovery:
- Detects spoilage organisms such as:
- Lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Leuconostoc dextranicum.
- Yeasts and molds.
- Detects spoilage organisms such as:
- Superior Performance:
- Proven superior in comparative studies for the total count and detection of spoilage organisms in citrus products.
- Balanced Nutritional Composition:
- Tryptone: Provides amino acids and complex nitrogenous substances.
- Glucose: Acts as a fermentable carbohydrate and energy source.
- Yeast Extract: Supplies essential vitamins for growth.
- Orange Serum: Creates an optimal environment for acid-tolerant microorganisms.
